Which Cover Do You Like Best?

Rick and I are in the final stages of preparing Small Homes for the printers. We changed the cover from an earlier version, which showed a small turn-of-the-century home in Santa Cruz (in this revised cover, it’s the middle image in the left hand column), because a single image didn’t seem to represent the diversity of images (120 or so small homes) in the book. Hence the collage.

Below are two alternatives, the same except for the background color. In the one with the red, it’s similar-looking to Home Work, Builders of the Pacific Coast, and Tiny Homes on the Move. Some of our savvy book friends think it’s too similar, and that another color would distinguish it from the other books. Hence the other with the dark green background.

Comments, please. Which do you like? Do you see any problem in this cover being similar to our other books?

    I like the green better.

  3. Seva says:

I think green background is more mild and doesn’t take too much attention from pictures.

  4. The 1st version with red background interests me the most. Stands out!

  5. Sam says:

Green. I like it! It should be similar, but not the same.

Yes, go with the green Lloyd…

  7. MJ says:

First I thought red (I don’t mind the similarity, it’s a flow thing) but I’m leaning toward the green now. There is a lot of green in the photos, so the red makes it pop more but…ultimately, I just want to see the inside!

I have nearly all the other books (and love them) but I think the Green nails this book’s look the best… Continuity of cover layout, from the last book, but a better, more attractive contrasting color to the wood/etc. of the homes.

  9. Red makes each individual photo “pop” and also makes the title look more prominent and therefore more readable. There is already a lot of green in each of the the photos. I’d choose red just for those reasons even though I am partial to green.

  10. Joyce says:

The green would be a nice change. I have them all and will buy this one no matter the color. Can’t wait. I vote green.

I prefer it green, and different from the other

  12. Freddy says:

Seeing from France, green is a great new idea

  13. Al Whittle says:

The green cover would be my choice. I like the way the colour blends with the foliage in the photos and visually holds it together. The red is more of a frame effect

  14. Which do you like?

I like the Brown, but from a presentation perspective the Green jumps the Title out at the reader much better.

Do you see any problem in this cover being similar to our other books?

    Good Luck and can’t wait!!!!

  15. Which do you like?

Brown is my preferred, but does not work as well as the Green. The Green offsets the color and title much better.

Do you see any problem in this cover being similar to our other books?

No…and Can’t wait to read a copy of it!!!

(Blue) something new for younger folk. Move center house image(red roof) with top center image with person at front door.

All your other books’ covers seem quite different, except the fact that most font is yellow. I would definitely choose green for this one.

    I like the green

Hi Lloyd, for me it would be the green one, it lets the images stand out better than the more earthy one.

    Kind regards,

Green for sure – great impact! Can’t wait for publication!

  22. Ruthie says:

Going for green. With my graphic designer hat on I can tell you a cool background color enhances and pops the photos forward. After all, the homes are the stars here! The warm red background comes forward to compete visually and makes the photos less important. Any hey, thanks for putting our home on your cover!!
