  1. I love this Lloyd! So great to see Jay’s work!

  2. caribemj says:

That’s the biggest 200 square feet I’ve ever seen!

  3. Wendy says:

I agree, caribemj. I was thinking, find a spot for a fridge, build a brick grill/oven outside and what else do you need?

  4. Wendy says:

Well, maybe a bathroom. I’m all about having a bathroom.

  5. Judy says:

I believe there’s a bathroom under the stairs? Also a place for a refrigerator at the end of the counter by the back door. Would love to see the plans for this!

  6. lyz says:

would love to see plans too.. and idea what the cost was!!! beautiful!

  7. This is absolutely one of my favorites. LOVE the stairs and the round window in the loft space.

  8. Kourosh says:

I can’t see where to do the dishes also. The space under the stairs doesn”t seem to be enough for a comfortable bath too.(caring for our ladies!) Would rather see inside of it. Overall the home looks lovely and made by proffesional hands. Congratulations!

  9. Kourosh says:

Upstairs looks dangerous for unattended children .

    • Looks dangerous for stupid children, or maybe untrained? My 4 younger siblings and I grew up around a large wood stove and multiple very steep stairways and a large balcony with no railing and multiple sharp and rusty farm buildings and machinery, even somewhat dangerous farm animals but we were trained by our parents what was dangerous and not allowed and the difference between right and wrong. Even a two year old can be trained not to do any specific thing…Just Saying..

  13. How does one find or purchase plans for jay nelsons awesome design of the 200 square feet tiny house on kauai? I live on maui and would love to build this somewhere on my 2 acres. By the way, my husband and I have lived in a one bedroom cottage for the last twenty years on this property. Jay’s tiny house would provide much needed room for guests. All it needs is room for a small fridge and what’s behind the door on the right as you enter the living area?

How difficult is it to build off-grid and small in regard to zoning and codes in Kauai? We are just finishing our third small home in Alaska and planning our fourth in Homer. Would love to do one in Kauai. Going there this week. Lovely house BTW!

    • Jack Flood says:

All housing in Hawaii is required to be built to Federal HUD standards; hence, no manufactured housing in Hawaii. But, it’s perfectly Ok to live in a falling down pile – gota’ love those Hawaii enforcement standards.

  16. stacey says:

Where can I buy the plans for this one?

Anyone know if there are any tiny homes like this in Kauai to rent? Would be a great opportunity

  18. Stacey says:

One of the best! Like the comments above, I’d love to understand more about it’s plan and execution.

  19. Allan says:

  20. Love your beautiful structure, fits right in with the eco system of Hawaii, yes?? check out my blog on tumblr ecogreenleaves.
